A Plain Memo
If you're setting up AI for an aging parent — start with the boring stuff
If you're standing in your aging parent's kitchen trying to figure out what to actually buy, here's the fork: a $1,500 AI companion robot with a press release that says it cuts loneliness by 95%, or a $40 Echo Dot. The marketing has an obvious answer. The peer-reviewed evidence has a different one.
This is a memo about what the research actually shows when you're setting up AI for an older parent — what works, what's vendor PR, and the AI threat already on her phone that nobody's selling you a device for.
ℹ️ AI voice disclosure: This episode uses an AI-generated voice (ElevenLabs). The host is a pseudonymous byline persona (Reid Conlin).
